How to repair severely damaged hair?

I'm really upset about my severely damaged hair. I got a shortish hair cut last year, and ever since i've been dying it and straightening it like crazy. I've learnt my lesson and i've put down the hair dye and irons a few days ago, but I don't know how to reconstruct it back to the long, loustrous, shiny, healthy hair I used to have. I deep condition it but that doesn't really help that much. I am worried that I will have to get a really short hair cut becuase the split ends are all over the length of the hair, not just the ends. Thats the only way to get rid of them, getting them all chopped hair. But i'm growing my hair long again! Arrrrgh, i hate my hair! The only way I can wear it is in a pony tail or small twisty bun. I'm 15, my hair should be healthy and not damaged! I have 40 year old hair, i swear. What should I do???? Cropped hair only looks nice on model faces. I have a boyish frame, so i'll look like a boy if i get short hair! How do I repair my hair??

I have the same exact problem, I had long healthy hair that I highlighted for years but still managed to keep healthy. I was always complimented on my hair and then last year someone over processed and damaged it, I have split ends ALL over the lenght and I dont want to cut it. Everyone says you have to cut it and start all over again, I spent fifteen years growing it! I wish I had the answer for you. I get trims more often and deep condition it but it just doesn't seem to grow. Yahoo Answers someone just wrote to me that if you have split ends they just keep travelling up the hair and it won't grow. I would look horrible with a short cut. I don't know what to do. It really affects how I feel about myself. I also wear my hair in a bun or ponytail to hide the fact that it looks so crappy. It is really sad because I always felt good about my hair and like it long. I really hope someone gives you and I a good answer. I have tried all the expensive salon treatments and protein packs. I guess we have to wait for it to grow but what if it won't grow because it is all split ends? GOOD LUCK to you, seriously I hope your hair gets back to normal. I have been waiting over a year and it is still the same.

use Alberto VO5 hairdressing, and just go with a slicked back look at night before you go to bed, it will act as a deep deep conditioner, wrap a towel around your pillow.

ok, in my case the bonawell shampoo and consitioner did miracles, try getting also a how do you call it?, cream bath, or that conditioner you leave for 15min more or less.

then use every now and then avocado mashed up, apply it to your hair and leave it for 10 or 15 min, and get the hot oil treatment from vo5, that did it for me...
